Relocation Housing Houston

It is no secret that Houston’s economy is enjoying a boom. To add fuel to the movement, a recent study found that Houston tops the state’s job listings, with about 130,000 new jobs on offer at any given time.

To give you an idea of volume, on a daily basis, Houston lists an average of 4,188 jobs every single day. So, if you are in Texas—or anywhere in the country for that matter—Houston is definitely a good bet for finding work.

Those who live here in the Bayou City enjoy the lifestyle, the diversity, and the friendly nature of our people. The wide variety of activities and restaurants and an affordable yet high standard of living makes living here an attractive proposition.

Houston is top in Texas for finding work

Where new jobs are concerned, Houston outclasses every other major city in Texas by a longshot. Even Austin which, in the same study, came in number one for “best places to live”, trails Houston by a considerable margin in terms of job availability. In this category, Houston ranks number five in the nation, with Austin trailing behind in sixth place.

According to the report, generated by US News and World Report, Houston ranks high based on its strength in several industries, including energy, aviation, finance, and the space industry, however, it is also noted that the city is number one in America in terms of the number of fast-food restaurants. In fact, Houston is the city that boasts more outlets than any other for all of America’s fast-food restaurants.

Other cities in the top five include Chicago at number four, San Francisco at number three, New York at number two, and Seattle at number one.

Unemployment at a record low in Houston

Adding to the strong job market is an unemployment rate that is currently sitting at a 42-year low, having dropped from 3.8 percent to 3.7 percent in October alone.

Texas has long touted a friendly business tax environment and a low cost of living, which has done well to attract a large number of companies to set up shop here. With a highly skilled and well-educated workforce close at hand, it is no wonder that 19 Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Houston and, in fact, two new Houston companies were added to that list in 2018; namely, Westlake Chemical Corp., and Cheniere Energy. The top-ranking Fortune 500 company in Houston is Phillips 66, which moved up six spots to arrive at number 28 overall.

Goods-producing companies enjoyed the biggest growth in the past year, with a reported 6.6 percent increase. Trade, transportation, and utilities were on the leading edge of hiring, though hospitality and leisure, education, and health services were not far behind.
