MD Anderson’s New Research Center brings talent needing MD Anderson housing
This past September, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center unveiled plans for its new $668 million research facility at the Texas Medical Center’s Helix Park. This facility will serve as a collaboration center for researchers and scientists to bolster efforts to end cancer. The South Campus Research Building 5 (SCRB5) will serve as the anchor for the expansive south campus research park and connect to TMC’s 37-acre Helix Park. With more research opportunities, we will see an influx of top talent in Houston coming for work and also needing MD Anderson housing near the facilities.
What does this MD Anderson research facility include?
Here you will find MD Anderson’s strategic research programs, research areas, a restaurant, a conference center, and several lecture environments for discussions and gatherings. According to a recent press release, the building will “maximize sustainability and efficiency” and the “surrounding green spaces, connecting pathways, gathering spots and places for reflection and inspiration will set a new standard for other research institutions across the country.”
When will this MD Anderson research center be completed?
SCRB5 is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026. Phase 1 of Helix Park is expected to open this fall. The Texas Medical Center (TMC) hosted a grand opening celebration with the Greater Houston Partnership at the annual State of the Texas Medical Center event this past October 26.
What benefits will these TMC developments bring to Houston?
The Texas Medical Center’s Helix Park and the new MD Anderson research facility will further support the TMC’s life sciences ecosystem and drive regional economic growth. For example, by attracting top talent in researchers and scientists to drive innovative medical research. We will see Houston continue to prosper as a hub for innovation, health care, research, and education.
