Top Things to do in Houston

Houston Things to Do

The Bayou City is well-known for a lot of reasons. Its booming job market, high standard of living, affordability, vibrant culture, and ethnic diversity are just a few of the things that make it so unique. Any Houstonian will tell you: living and working here definitely has its perks!

If you are coming to Houston for the first time, whether for business or personal reasons, it isn’t hard to lose yourself in the easy-going lifestyle here. In the summertime, you’re never far away from fun in the sun, and the winters are pretty easy to swallow. Good weather aside, there are lots of things to do and see and, truthfully, it never gets old. Even those who have lived here all their lives will tell you: when there is spare time to be had, there’s no place they’d rather be.

Here are some of our favorite things to do in Houston:

1. Houston Space Center

The massive Houston Space Center is a must-see-must-do attraction. Visitors can walk through a replica of the Space Shuttle Independence as well as the awesomely huge carrier aircraft that launches it. You will also be invited to tour a life-sized model of Skylab, America’s first space station, touch a moon rock, and learn about new missions that NASA has in the pipeline. There are several tours available, but if you want a real insider’s peek at what goes on at Johnson Space Center, opt for the Level 9 VIP Experience Tour, which gives you unprecedented access to areas that are not covered in the general tours.

2. Go to the Rodeo

What’s more Texan than the rodeo? The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a 19-day annual event that takes place in February and March. Since its inaugural outing in 1932, it has become the largest event of its kind and in true Texas fashion, every year promises to be bigger than the last. From their awesome entertainment lineup to a carnival, a wine show, parades, livestock shows, horse shows, and traditional rodeo events, there is truly something for everyone. This year’s concert lineup includes Tim McGraw, Cardi B, Brooks & Dunn, Kings of Leon, Santana, George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and more besides. It all takes place this year from February 25 through March 17 at NRG Park.

3. Indulge your senses on a culinary tour

Houston’s foodie scene is the stuff of legend. Every cuisine you can possibly think of is right here, and we don’t mean just run-of-the-mill examples, either. Some of the country’s top chefs have made their home here in Houston, and no matter what your palate craves, it’s always within reach. From world-class barbeque to Tex-Mex, noodle houses, Chinese, chicken and waffles, wine bars or contemporary haute cuisine, the biggest dilemma you will have is choosing the restaurants you won’t be able to make it to. Check out some of the hottest new restaurants in Houston or discover some tried-and-true favorites – there are no wrong answers here!
