Things to consider when you move to Houston, Texas
Welcome to Houston! Are you thinking about relocating to Houston, TX, or have already arrived? Houston is the country’s fourth largest city and home to many job opportunities, attractions and diverse cultures. It’s a great time to move to Houston and here are some considerations for your review…
Houston Diversity and Inclusion
Houston is a diverse metropolis, a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities. You will enjoy pretty much every type of cuisine here, and get to meet people from all over the world. This continues to make Houston home to many diverse cultures and a thriving economy.
Getting around Houston
Houston is a BIG city with smaller cities within it (such as West University and Bellaire) as well as large suburbs on the outskirts (such as Katy, Pearland and Sugar Land). Traffic can be an issue during peak rush hours, and if you don’t drive it is a challenge to walk between neighborhoods in Houston or bike for that matter. Houston is not friendly for walkability between neighborhoods, however, some areas like Rice Village, Upper Kirby, Montrose and the Heights are just a few areas that are very walkable within them for shops, businesses and restaurants. There is a lack of efficient public transportation, so it definitely helps to have a car to get around the city (or at least Uber/Lyft).
Outdoor Recreation in Houston
While it may be hot outside during the summer, the rest of the year has mild outdoor temperatures for you to enjoy the outdoors with some recreational activities. Houston is a bayou city and has trails alongside them for you to walk or bike. Furthermore, there are over 50,000 acres of park space including nice trails by Allen Parkway and Memorial Park.
