Tilman Fertitta Receives Award from Texas Travel Industry

The Houston Business Journal’s Jack Witthaus recently released an interesting news article titled, “Tilman Fertitta’s company receives award for impact on Texas’ travel industry.”

Most people wouldn’t consider Houston to be a tourism hotspot, however, the city welcomes millions of visitors every year for business, medical center treatments and events. One thing Texas is known for is hospitality! Houston-based Landry’s Inc. was recently honored with an award for providing visitors to Texas with an exceptional travel experience.

According to the HBJ article, “Austin-based Texas Travel Industry Association gave Landry’s Inc. its annual heritage award, according to a release. The award seeks to recognize businesses that make a positive impact on Texas travel industry.

In 1980, Landry’s had one seafood restaurant in Katy, Texas. Today, the company owns and operates more than 500 restaurants around the world as well as hotels, casinos and tourist developments. You may have heard about the Kemah Boardwalk and Pleasure Pier in Galveston, Texas.

Tilman Fertitta serves as president, chairman and CEO of Landry’s Inc.. Have you seen the TV show – Billion Dollar Buyer? Well, that’s Tilman Fertitta. “Fertitta is one of a dozen Houstonians who made the Forbes 400 list of the richest people in America in 2016.” His contributions go beyond his business to local organizations and institutions. Fertitta contributed $20 million to renovate the University of Houston’s basketball arena, which will soon be named the Fertitta Center beginning in 2018.
