Houstonians’ job sentiments are getting a little rosier

Houston Corporate Lodging

According to data gleaned from a survey headed up by Energage Top Workplaces, Houstonians are feeling better about their jobs in 2018 (compared to 2017). Two of the main reasons for this positive outlook are a strong sense of purpose and getting along with their coworkers – two significant reasons that employees tend to stay in their jobs.

Workers were also enthusiastic about their future prospects for advancement as well as training opportunities and recruiting.

If there is a trade-off, it’s in data that shows the same employees are struggling with work-life balance. Some are not as happy with their pay and benefits though, overall, there is a pervasive satisfaction with the direction things are going.

Ultimately, Houston employees are engaged with their work and their companies – and that is truly the standard by which success is measured. Engaged employees are happier, more productive, and tend to stay at their jobs longer, contributing to company stability and a healthy corporate culture.

Houston: a great city to work and live

There are so many reasons that people choose Houston to live and work. The standard of living is high, the cost of living is low, there are plenty of great jobs in a diverse range of industries, and the weather is generally pretty great.

For these reasons and more, Houston is one of the most moved-to cities in the United States. In fact, statistics show that, on average, 275 new people move to Houston every single day; and with a job market that is growing as rapidly as its population, it’s easy to understand why.

Our economy is booming, and so is the job market. Some of the main industries that are currently experiencing growth include:

  • The energy sector

  • Healthcare

  • Research

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Life sciences

  • Aerospace/aviation/avionics

Great for entrepreneurs

Along with the population growth comes plenty of opportunity for small businesses who can provide services to residents. Hospitality, accommodation, restaurants, retail – these are all areas that are booming as well.

Entrepreneurs who aspire to establish themselves in Houston have plenty of reason to do so as well. The business tax situation is very friendly; there is no business license tax and no personal state income tax to pay, either. Business property taxes are very low and franchise fees are far lower here than most other places in the country.

Strong economy, strong city

Whether you are a native Houstonian or coming to Houston to take advantage of our business-friendly tax structure or the great job opportunities, you will feel immediately welcome. As one of the most diverse cities in the nation, Houston is a friendly city with something for everyone.

If you have struggled to find great-paying jobs elsewhere in America, Houston is a city that can make all those worries a thing of the past. Just ask the millions of happy, engaged, and enthusiastic (but perhaps slightly overworked) employees who make Houston their home and they will tell you – if you’re here, you’re home.
